August 6, 2009

This post is belated…

August 6th was important for a couple of reasons. First it marked the two year anniversary of moving into our home. Anyone that knows us knows that 2 years in one place really is a record for us! It's been a great two years!

More importantly, August 6th marked the 60th birthday of one of the most amazing woman in my life; my Mom. I can’t remember exactly when it was but I know that my very first memory is of my mother. When I was a little girl we were a team; it was often just the two of us and my mother made sure that our time was always filled with memorable moments. She worked three jobs to provide for us; she held a full-time job at Raytheon, she waitressed, and she hosted home parties like Pampered Chef but her product was pine furnishings (yes… pine). It sounds like she wouldn’t have much time for me, but we were really always together.

My childhood memories are full of playing with Barbies, watching the Walton’s and Lavern and Shirley (she was Lavern and I was Shirley), ice skating, rides to the beach, playing Candyland over and over and over again, dancing in the living room, baking, and countless other quality activities. When it was just the two of us she would let me sneak into her bed in the middle of the night; I don’t know if she realizes how much I love that memory. It was a safe place for me to go, I loved being with her then and I still do today.

Since then our lives have changed so much; we went from being a team of two to a group of seventeen. And although I would love to believe that I am still the center of her universe, she has stretched her arms and wrapped them around all of us. Nothing makes her happier than loving her family.

Life gets crazy and I fear that sometimes we neglect the ones we love the most. If I don’t spend enough time with her (although I try) and if I don’t share my thanks as often as I should I hope that my mom knows that I remember everything she’s ever done for me. That I’ve appreciated the countless sacrifices that she’s made on my behalf. That I appreciate the strength and courage she’s shown over the years. That I am thankful that she often knows me better than I know myself. That I love the way she has loved us. And most importantly, watching her with Matty is one of my favorite things to witness.

She is an amazing mother.

She is a wonderful grandmother.

She is a dear friend and confidant.

Happy Birthday Mom! I love you so much and wish you a happy 60th birthday and a year full of happy, special memories!

He's Here!!!

After much anticipation, Matty's awesome new cousin has arrived!!! Michael (aka Mikey) Anthony joined the Team C West Coast on July 30th. He weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs 2.5 oz and 20 inches long. Although we haven't seen him yet, we hear that he received the "head circumference" genes.

On Saturday his big sister K-Rock celebrated her third birthday. Here she is checking out her little bro with daddy.

Congratulations Team C West!

Matty Month 5+

Who knew? If your son's head circumference is in the 98th percentile, don't bother buying cool bibs that stretch over his head - they just won't fit!!

This picture is funny, but seeing his reaction live was hilarious!!!

Thanks to a suggestion from his friend Baby D, Matty picked up a "Me Too" chair. Here he is chillaxin' with a favorite book.

In late July we attended a benefit for Timmy. The benefit was a huge success and helped to raise money for Tim's rehabilitation. Here's Matty hanging out with Gram; notice him reaching for the Heineken.

We've also had a lot of fun experimenting with solid foods. Matty's favorite food is sweet potatos but he also really likes squash and carrots, he sort of likes apples but won't open his mouth for peaches! Unfortunately he had a reaction to oatmeal so we're sticking to rice cereal for now.
Finally... here's the monkey modeling his new Halloween costume!

This is my new favorite picture :-)

Other things that are important to note this month... there appears to be a tooth ready to "pop" on Matty's lower gum and he has become quite the rolling fool.
We have a lot of exciting things going on in the next few weeks. Matty will be attending his first MLS game on Sunday and we're going on our first family vacation the following weekend. More on that soon....
