He's Ridiculous...

Ridiculously cute that is... OK, I know I'm the mom and I'm supposed to think that he's the cutest boy ever but seriously.... isn't he?

Matty - One Month

Happy Birthday Matty! The little man is one month old today; amazing! We've had a very busy month. We have been trying to get out almost every day. We've become regulars at the local 0-6 month mom's group, we visit family and friends, get to SBux (for decaf) every couple of days, we run errands, and of course we go to the mall and Target - never to young to teach the boy to shop! ;-)

Matty has also done a lot of growing up over the month. He has incredible leg strength and is proving that he'll be either a soccer player or a football kicker someday. He has the strongest little neck, he lifts his head and follows our every movement. It's amazing to watch him "see" things now. He likes to look at the lights, out the window and at his reflection in mirrors. He also recognizes our voices and will just stare at us when we talk to him. He's an amazing little man.

We don't have any new stats to report but we're guessing at least 11 pounds. We'll be going to the doctor again at the end of April.

Although last night was an exception, Matty has been pretty consistent with sleeping. Most nights he wakes up for two quick feedings, one around 2 and the other around 5. We're typically able to piece together 8 hours of sleep.

This week has been adventure packed so far. Today we went to Mommy's work to visit with the ladies, and we went to Pepere's and Grammys to meet Auntie Gail and Uncle Bob. Matty also went with mommy to a doctor's appointment and we have playdates with Bryce and Sam on Thursday and Friday. We had visits from Chrissy and Harper, Kim and Kloe, and of course four of the grandparents. Here are some pictures from the week or click here to see what we've been up to all month.

A Tiger for his Tiger

Matty and I woke up from our nap yesterday to find a gigantic package at the front door. Grandpa L had dropped by to bring a present over for his little tiger - see below ;-)

Matty's First St. Patrick's Day

Our Little Leprechaun had a full day on St. Patrick's Day. We attended our first Mom's Group, went shopping, and had a visit with two sets of grandparents. He wrapped up the day by heading out to a restaurant for dinner with mommy, daddy, Mem and Pat - he was a trooper! Here's the man, dressed for the occasion.

Professional Photo Shoot

A friend from work offered her sister's photography service to us so that we could have some newborn shots of Matty. The photographer, Andrea, actually lives in Finland but was here in the States in time to take some photo's of our little man. She came by on Saturday and spent about 2.5 hours with us, converting our house into a professional photo studio. Matty was great, although he had an "accident" on Daddy's bare chest, he slept through almost the whole shoot! Andrea took about 200 pictures and will be sending us all of the photo's in a few weeks, but she sent us these to tie us over. We can't wait to see all of the pictures!!
To view more of Andrea's amazing work you can see her blog - http://www.ajatonjoki.com/wordpress/

Thanks to Christa and Andrea for the great pictures and a fun afternoon!

Matty - Week 2

Matty has had a very busy week! He experienced his first professional photo shoot (pictures to follow) and we've had lots of visitors and doctors appointments! Auntie and Uncle V and SJ came for a visit on Saturday. Half of the Russell's came by on Sunday so that they could meet Matty before their Sam arrives next week. We're looking forward to Sam and Matty growing up together! Matty also had a visitor from Las Vegas and his first (and hopefully last) visit with a police officer!! Of course, he's probably had a dozen visits with his grandparents this week, and they're all coming back over this afternoon (they just can't get enough).

Matty outgrew his NB clothes this week but he's still swimming in 0-3!! Speaking of outgrowing, we had our 2 week Well Child doctors visit today:

Stats on February 25
Height - 21.5
Weight - 10.5 (dropped to 9.4 when we were discharged from the hospital)

Stats on March 11
Height - 22.5 or 96th percentile
Weight - 10.11 or 95th percentile
Head Circumference - 15 3/4 or 97th percentile (yikes)

The doctor says that he's the size of a 2 month old.... He's our big boy

Today is also our first day at home without Daddy; he had to go back to work. We survived an adventure out in the rain to the doctors and the pharmacy and we're looking forward to a trip to the mall later in the week.

This weekend will bring a whole new group of visitors; the Tins are coming up on Saturday and we're hoping to see the rest of the Russell's soon. We've joked that Matty needs a personal assistant to coordinate all of his guests. Next week also brings St. Patty's Day and maybe a trip to Nokia to see the ladies.

It is so hard to believe that just two weeks ago this "little" man was still in my belly waiting to be held. What a journey its been so far.

Matty Fact #1

Welcoming Matthew Charles

Today is Matty's one week birthday! It's hard to believe that it's been a whole week since he entered our lives and stole our hearts. On February 25th at 11:05 AM, Matty entered the world at a whopping 10 pounds 5 ounces and 21.5 inches long.

For the most part it's been a smooth ride with a few minor bumps along the way. Although rocky to start off, Matty has become a champ at sleeping and eating. He lost a pound from his birth weight before being discharged from the hospital, but he's already gained half of that back. We're going to the pediatrician again tomorrow and I strongly suspect that Matty will be back at, or very near, his original birth weight. As far as sleeping goes, we've been able to sleep for 8-10 hours with typically only one wake up - we can't complain!

Although he's a hefty guy, he's not chunky or chubby but just very tall and well proportioned. He's surprisingly wearing new born size clothing and still swimming in anything sized 0-3 or bigger; it's hilarious! Unfortunately we only have a few NB sized outfits so we're recycling through them quickly! We need to get out and do some shopping, but it's been too cold to take Matty out.

He loves to just hang out... he spends lot's of time in either mommy or daddy's arms, unless one of his grandparents are here, then mommy and daddy lose out ;-)

You can view all of our photo's by clicking on the link to the right, but here are some of my favorites.

We have also realized that Matthew has a large number of nicknames already; Matty, Burrito, Bud (Pepere's nickname for Matty), Homeboy (guess who), Chooch (don't ask), and The Boy (we stole this one but it fits so well!). The poor kid is going to have an identity crisis before he hits 1 month.

This has, hands down, been the most exciting, special, exhausting, emotional, and best week of our lives. We have no idea how we ever lived without Matthew.

A special thanks to everyone we've seen so far and we're looking forward to seeing the rest of you real soon.
